irreplacable, unique, underestimated. Only three words I can think of at this sad time. Mickey, you helped rock our world and shape our musical lives. Thankyou.
So sadSo sad, he was great talent.
Such sad news. Mickey was with Shaky during his most popular years and was someone we all grew to love. I had many conversations with him on tour, and loved everything he did. He made it look so easy and made it sound so great.
Mickey Gee - we will miss you more than you could ever know. My condolences go to his family. xxxx Rachel
FAN2071 I had forgotten just how good Sapphire was ... until I heard Shaky sing it live on 8th Dec!! A hidden treasure has finally surfaced again!
Shaky has had some great guitarists over the years right up to the current line up but with respect to all of them they can only ever be second best to Mickey Gee.
He was some guitar player. Shakys sound was his sound in those early years. I remember Stuart Coleman on tour telling a few of us how they put together This Ole House and in words "Mickey took it to he next level on that track" RIP Mickey
A rare video feat. Mickey Gee !

Another one, this time with legends like Carl Perkins, Eric Clapton and Ringo Starr.

So sorry to hear of Mickeys death. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
No one has quite taken the place of Mickey in Shakys Band althought the other guys are great guitarists, Mickeys licks can only be done by him. RIP Shaky fans are the best friendly people on the planet
The line up used for the Carl Perkins show was infact credited at the end as The Dave Edmunds band featuring Mickey Gee.It's a great show and features stars like Clapton & George Harrison.
I remeber when this project was just a pipe dream watching it grow. Wow! waht a show!!
I found these tributes on internet. Stuart is actually Stuart Colman and D. Higham played with Shaky circa 1999.
Mickey Gee, one of the most talented guitarists ever to play Rock & Roll in the UK, passed away this morning. Stuart I must say that I was really sad to hear this news the other day. I was lucky enough to have met and jammed with Micky on a couple of occasions. A true guitar great and one of my absolute favourites and influences from the 'modern' day players. I remember watching just him and his guitar at a pub in Cardiff many years ago on a jam night John Lewis was hosting. Micky's playig that night was just unbelievable; Merle Travis, Chet Atkins style just played so well it was an absolute delight to sit and watch him play. There's not many guitarists that can do that. He was the best at what he did, no doubt about that. One of the reasons I loved those early Shaky records was the guitar solos, to be honest. He really will be missed. Darrell Higham I believe Mickey was in the region of 63/64. He hadn't been able to play guitar for about a year due to emphysema. In recent times, just to move his fingers over the strings made him out of breath. A couple of days ago he was admitted to hospital with a collapsed lung, and it seems he never really recovered from that. Apart from his tenure with Tom Jones and the Squires, and later the Greaseband, Mickey was also with Lulu and the Luvvers. The man had quite a track record. Stuart Over the last year Micky's brother has written to me couple of times. I guess if I collect your nice Micky tributes and I send them to him, nobody has nothing against that? Ari
Hey!!
I'm saying, Micky Gee wasn't not only the best Wales guitar player, he was/is the best rock'n roll player in the world. I think, if it hasn't for the great playing of Micky, Shaky maybe not have the big hits in the early 80's. If you listen to the tracks it's seems like the voice and guitar is one toghether in some strange way, it's magic!!! As Ari, I'm a huge fan of Micky. It's spooky, I haven't been in touched with Ari for 5-6 years and, on the 22 of januari I was celebrating my 50 years birthday, I got a call on my mobil, it was Ari. He told me that Micky has died this morning......... What is the odds??? I always remember my 50th years birthday as the day Micky Gee died. Even Dave Edmunds admited that Micky was his favourite guitar. He was the greatest. It's only sad that the guys behind the idols succes are not seen or known...... I will miss you Micky, I think you are the best of the best Anders
