That would be great if you could point Mickey's Brother to this site to read the tributes. It'll show how much we, as Shaky music fans, loved his Guitar playing.

I collected our messages and I sent them to Micky's brother last Tuesday (via email).

Ricky already wrote on another topic that Micky's funeral was yesterday in Cardiff.
Shaky, Geraint Watkins, Andy Fairweather-Low and many others attended.

Hi Ari.

That's great, i hope they will be of some comfort to Mickey's brother at this sad time.
There's a great saying . . . as one door closes, another opens & this is very true in Mickey's case, with the release of the new box set Mickey's playing will be refreshed and heard in a new light & hopefully to a new audience.

I suppose this is some of the earliest footage of Mickey Gee, while he still had hair and was playing guitar for Tom Jones in 1964 !

Great clip! That aired that recently on the Jonathen Ross show over here. Some of those guitar licks you could he later in the Shaky recordings.

Hi,
Thanks for the real nice comments about my brother.
Yes, he was a great guitarist, not only rock 'n' roll but Atkins and Travis - he was a real master of their styles too!!!
About 2 years before he died I spent a lot of time with him, (A lot more than usual - almost everyday) talking about all sorts and Yes Music. He wasn't able to play so I'd pick up the guitar, but I think it probably didn't help because of all the mistakes I'd make.

Anyway, lots of good memories about him and his playing. He always told me that he never really had a talent to play the guitar and I do remember him struggling to play simple chords when his friends would pick those same chords up very quickly! That was when he was about fifteen and I was about six years old.

He had a very special gift which was, he'd never give up! And practice, practice, practice until his fingers had blisters. What everyone heard on Shakey's records was years of determination and that was his real talent.

I'd just like to say thanks very much to Ari from Finland and everyone on the internet for all the nice things that's been said and written.

One last thing, I hope to have a stone in place on his grave before or just after Christmas. It will have an engraved picture of him playing his telecaster.

Many Thanks

Tom Gee

Hi Tom,

How nice for you to get in touch with our forum and share some of your memories.

Most of us never knew Mickey personally but his Guitar playing will always remain prominently in our minds and forever listened to. Mickey's sounds will always be the sound of my childhood and growing up with music.

God Bless,

Paul.
