Mickey Gee - sad newsmickey gee died on tuesday, what a great shame, my thoughts go out to all his family
''how could it be like that''
Yes, just read about this on the BBC. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7843796.stm
Mickey was probably the best guitarist to have backed Shaky, lifting many of the songs to a different level with his flawless picking. He's gone but the music lives on. RIP Petition to get Shaky honoured: http://www.gopetition.com/online/24212.html

John Irish Earle, now Micky Gee. Very sad.
Micky's guitaring was probably the 'hook' that got me into Shaky. That guitar was amazing like nothing i'd heard before. It grabbed my attention and the rest is history. Micky will live on forever as we keep listening. God Bless.
Such sad news;my thoughts are with his family
RIP shake and boogie!!!!!
After 27 yrs Still A Love Worth Waiting For...
Micky's contribution to that clean and fresh "Shaky sound" which conquered the airwaves in 1981 can't be underestimated. As I always say at these times, thanks for the music Micky and RIP.
Hi everybody, I'm new here.
Unfortunately I write this under sad circumstances. . I feel that Micky was Shaky's best guitarist. Micky played lead guitar on those big early 1980's hits. Have you ever noticed how big role guitar has on "This Ole House", "You Drive Me Crazy" and "Oh Julie"? Some of the licks that he played were quite difficult too. It has been strugle to all the other Shaky guitarists to play "This Ole House" solo correct way. Shaky said this comment about Micky: "The guitar solos, for me, were very important, they weren't just filling. His solos were and are very memorable." I was really glad to see this comment from Shaky and I totally agree. Could you imagine, for example, "You Drive Me Crazy" with different kind of guitar solo? I had a privilege to talk with Micky couple of times in recent years. He was excellent fellow to talk to. He wasn't booze & girls type of rock'n'roll guy. When I asked him about music, he gave me thoughtful, funny and interesting answers. He was a guy who wasn't afraid to say if he didn't like somebody, though he had never anything bad to say about Shaky. He said to me couple of times that Shaky is a good guy. One of his favorite Shaky memory was when "This Ole House" was number one. Shaky came to him and said "who would have believed that rockabilly tune with finger picking guitar would be number 1?". They both shared excitement of the success. Micky also played with following artists (on record or stage): Tom Jones, Dave Edmunds, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Lulu, Chuck Berry, Ted Herold, Jerry Williams, Carl Perkins, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Brian Setzer, Joe Cocker, Willie & The Poorboys (Willie & The Poorboys' other members were Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones) etc. Rest in peace Micky. On the behalf of everyone, welcome to the forum Ari.
It's so true about the Gee's instrumental breaks. They were never a filler had basically gave all those early singles the Shaky stamp. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales ... -22754546/ Poor Mickey lost his fight with emphysema which is a lung disease.
Sad news, my thoughts too are with Mickey's family and friends also Shaky too. I don't know if this sounds silly or unproductive but I thought maybe we could get listed on here all the songs Mickey played for Shaky listed and perhaps do a poll on peoples favourite song Mickey played on ? Toby

Mickey was and will be a legend!! underrated by sooo many for the sound he created, he willm be sorely missed, even though i knoew he was unwell I clung to the hope he would unleash his guitar onstage with shaky just one last time.

Dave Edmunds once said of Mickey that he had better handle on 8 bar and 12 bar solos that James Burton. It was a wonderful tribute from one guitarist (not short on ability) to another. I hope Mickey's family can take solace in all the wonderful music he contributed to (not just Shaky's) and comfort in the fact that it brought pleasure to so many people.
Many thanks Mickey... we all loved you.
Just heard the sad news about Mickey. What a great player he was,i speak as a guitarist myself.Like many have said,Mickey contributed so much to that early 80's Shaky sound, especially on tracks like Mona Lisa, You drive me craxy & don't tell me your troubles. Some fab guitar playing.
R.I.P Mickey.
