Paint It Green wrote:Ok guys, just to let you know I have been on this case for a couple of months now. I've been utilising my press contacts and recently got in touch with the agents of Matt Lucas & Rob Brydon to try and enlist them in this effort, if not to get Shaky knighted then at least to realise Stuart Cable's suggestion of erecting a commemorative statue in Wales! My emails have been forwarded to the stars themselves and I'm awaiting their responses, which the agents say should arrive in January following their hectic Christmas schedules. The campaign would really go stellar if it had Lucas & Brydon and their celebrity mates on board - the tabloids would love it. Anyway, in the mean time I've set up a petition online to gather as many signatures as possible, which should give a further nudge to the celebs, who would in turn give a further boost to the petition. It's a win-win situation either way as the petition can be forwarded to the government if it accrues enough signatures, so get signing! Here's the link: http://www.gopetition.com/online/24212.htmlLet me know if you think I should amend or add anything to the spiel I've written. Didn't want to mention the celebrity fans just yet for fear of being presumptuous and putting them off...
WELL DONE Kris, thanks for getting this on the way - knew if i posted the thread and stirred up some intrest someone with the knowhow would come up trumps! Thank you!

No worries. Have been meaning to mention something about this meself – was actually hoping for a celeb reply before doing so for maximum impact…
It still works out fine this way though, if we get enough signatures that is.
I just saw your comment Sean – loved the line “that’s what I call the X Factor”, however not so sure about the “four year music career and still going strong” bit…

I have been in discussion with Kris (paint it green) talking about any charity work Shaky has been committed to over the years. If he has been committed to a certain cause this would be good to mention in the petition.
We are both aware that he has done bits and bobs over the year but was just wondering if anyone knew what else done that could be worth a mention?
But we both agreed that what he has done for the music industry is a stand alone achievement for an award.

The thing is Shaky like so many don't make a "big thing" out of doing their bit for charity, he is fairly private whereas Bob Geldof and Peter Kay who have done so in the public eye.

Ok guys, just to let you know that there have been other online petitions running for the past 18 months calling for the knighthood of author Terry Pratchett, including a petition on the same site as our Shaky one: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/ter ... thood.html
This is an official government reply: http://www.number10.gov.uk/Page12236
And anyone who's seen the news today will see what the end result has been: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/book ... chett.html
It just goes to show that these campaigns do actually serve a purpose, so we need to get a lot more signatures onboard - please beg friends & fam to lend a hand! I know there are also many forum members who for whatever reason have yet to sign the petition - all I can say to them is put any such reasons aside and please help out for the common good
We'll probably need more names before any of Shaky's many celeb fans will get on board, and when that happens it becomes a media story in itself - earlier this year a story circulated in the press just because Johnny Vegas and Mick Jagger signed an online petition to get Ken Dodd honoured: http://www.nme.com/news/the-rolling-stones/34563
So it really is a win-win situation
