Paint It Green wrote:Anyway, in the mean time I've set up a petition online to gather as many signatures as possible, which should give a further nudge to the celebs, who would in turn give a further boost to the petition. It's a win-win situation either way as the petition can be forwarded to the government if it accrues enough signatures, so get signing! Here's the link: http://www.gopetition.com/online/24212.html

We are not alone in our quest to get Shaky honoured.
Not such nice words about Richard Madeley, but hey!

I've just found this:

Yes, I'm quite impressed with its growth rate, the numbers are increasing daily.

A good cross-European demographic too, plus a couple from Down Under and the States 8)

Am going away for a week tomorrow but when I return I'll be on the case of getting some special signatures on there...

That's weird, I've not seen anything on FaceBook about Shaky, (but then I only really go on there to accept stuff friends send me. Don't really know much about it).

Anyway, I signed the petition by going to the official website. :D

I've jolly well signed my name as well, but I'm sad to say, if Brucie still hasn't been given a knighthood, what chance does Shaky have. But we have to keep fighting as he really is a contributor to the music industry, whether people like it or not!

Bruce Forsyth was made a CBE in the 2006 New Years Honours list, which is the reason he hasn't received a full knighthood yet.

The petition is more about getting Shaky honoured in this way rather than a full knighthood - it's confusing but there is a difference.

If author Terry Pratchett can receive an OBE and snooker player John Higgins an MBE, then Shaky certainly can too

Ok, I guess there's no harm in informing you I was fortunate enough to interview Rob Brydon on the phone last Friday for my magazine. I was actually making my way to Dover at the time for a skiing trip but Rob couldn't squeeze me in at any other time so I had to conduct the interview on the concourse at Waterloo! V professional  .

He was a true gent though and didn't mind. After discussing his new UK tour the conversation inevitably turned to Shaky, following the Keith Barrett connection, and Rob was happy to talk at length about someone he is still clearly a big fan of. A lot of it was off-record though so I can't divulge too much, although I can say that he promised to sign the petition as soon as he gets round to checking it out, and would ask Peter Kay to do the same! So quite a result on that front.

He hasn't done so yet as he's a v busy man what with Comic Relief and everything but I will be chasing him up on it next week - if he is the true gent that I spoke to he will stick to his word. And I did promise him a favourable review in return 8)

Fingers crossed

It's interesting to see where everyone comes from. There are plenty of signature from Austria and Germany, as well as the UK. Some from the USA and even Bombay. Keep them coming! Only 27 until we reach the 500 landmark. It'll be nice to get to 1000.

Have to wait until Rob's UK tour begins later this month before I can chase him up on it. I'm confident that once he's on board and the media (hopefully) picks up on it, the whole thing will snowball...
